BioTek attends 50th Annual Meeting of the Society of Toxicology (SOT) in Washington DC

The SOT meeting was held early March at the Washington DC convention center. For those of us travelling from Vermont, timing was perfect as we avoided the worst snow storm of the winter (so far) with accumulations around 30 inches in some parts of the state.
BioTek was the only microplate instrumentation company exhibiting at the ToxExpo tradeshow. The exhibition included a large number of assay service companies offering assay development and ADME/Tox testing. These contract lab service companies were the vast majority of the exhibitors present. There were numerous animal testing equipment companies present. This equipment was primarily for rodents, but animal models also included dogs, rabbits and primates.

BioTek’s booth

BioTek's focus was on presenting solutions for the automation of in vitro hepatocyte assays. On BioTek’s booth the following instruments were highlighted:

  • EL406 Washer Dispenser, used to plate cells, add reagents, as well as wash cells and replace media
  • Precision Pipeting System, used for serial dilutions (compound titration, …) as well as plate to plate transfer and plate replication
  • Synergy H1 Multimode Reader for fluorescence, luminescence and optical density detection.
In addition, BioTek gave a presentation in partnership with Celsis and Promega titled: "LiverPool: Pooled Human Cryopreserved Hepatocytes and Their Advantages Across Diverse ADME-Tox Applications". This session presented the results of P450 inhibition and activation assays run in 384-well microplates, using BioTek’s instrumentation, Celsis' LiverPool Human Cryopreserved Hepatocytes, and Promega's luminescent substrates.
