The Latin American Biotechnology and Biodiversity Conference

Manizales
Manizales, Colombia

The Latin American Biotechnology and Biodiversity Conference was held in Manizales, Colombia from September 21-23. We flew in to Manizales on a 40 passenger twin prop plane as the city sits on top of a ridge in the Andes and the runway is too short for jets. Due to the airports location, you end up landing uphill, which is quite a unique experience and in our case gave our plane a great bounce. This airport challenges even the most seasoned pilots. The taxi ride was equally as exhilarating as the plane landing speeding through a series of switchbacks and sharp curves! The city is absolutely gorgeous and the people warm, kind and extremely helpful. The conference had over 360 registered attendees. Topics in this conference ranged from Biofuels to Cosmetics and a lot of others in between. Dr. Paul Held gave a talk on cell based assays which was extremely well attended. BioTek and our distributor ADN Internacional showcased Epoch Microplate Spectrophotometer and Take3 Micro-Volume Plates for Nucleic Acid and Protein Quantitation as well as a poster on Biofuels.
